Whether in response to a natural or pandemic disaster, serious accident, criminal activity or surprise media visit, landlords and residents should be prepared for emergency situations.
To assist you with these efforts, the SDCAA has compiled the following information:
Ask your landlord about your community’s evacuation plan and familiarize yourself with it.
Make sure your landlord has your cell phone number (if you are evacuated from your apartment, he/she can call to let you know when it’s safe to return).
Register your cell phone with the Alert San Diego emergency notification system at www.ReadySanDiego.org
Do not remove the batteries from your smoke alarms, and alert your landlord if they are not working.
Never leave burning candles or cigarettes unattended! (Consider not using either inside your apartment altogether).
Keep an emergency survival kit in an easily accessible place. For a checklist of items to include, click here.
